Why free, forever?
Protecting a personal computer shouldn’t depend on a monthly bill. FerXium’s source is MIT licensed. Every implemented feature belongs to the same free project. There are no premium tiers, upgrade prompts, paid scanning quotas, or hidden trials.
Open-source licensing makes that promise tangible: you can inspect, modify, and distribute the code under its license, regardless of the project’s future.
Why Rust?
Security tools spend their lives reading untrusted inputs. Rust helps prevent many memory safety mistakes in application code, while supporting predictable performance and clear ownership boundaries. It doesn’t make an antivirus invulnerable; careful design, testing, audits, and a strong threat corpus still matter.
Privacy is the starting point.
The application has no analytics SDKs, telemetry, advertising, or sample uploads. Reports and quarantine content stay in private per-user storage. Network traffic counters remain local. Cloud lookup is unavailable and disabled in this release.
If you configure an update feed, the service contacts that HTTPS host to retrieve signed signatures. The host sees the request and your IP address. It does not receive scanned file paths, hashes, or contents. This website serves local fonts and assets and includes no analytics scripts.
Transparency over promises.
The tagline is a statement of ambition. No security product can guarantee unbreakable protection. This first source release implements real scanning and monitoring, with example signatures and documented limitations. We’ll earn trust through clear release notes, independent review, and measured improvements.
The complete source is public. Native preview builds include the desktop and protection service, with checksums for each download. Publisher signing, independent audits, and a vetted signature corpus remain release milestones.
